Department of Philology // University of Patras

Postgraduate Studies

As from the academic year 2008-2009, the Department of Philology of the University of Patras now offers a new Postgraduate Programme in Modern approaches to language and texts.

The programme leads to the award of:

A Master's Degree in:

  • Classics
  • Modern Greek Philology
  • Linguistics

The new Postgraduate Programme is a revised version of the earlier postgraduate programme "Comparative Linguistics and Language Variety", which ran during the years 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, with funding provided by the Second Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training (EPEAEK II) - 3rd Community Support Framework (CSF) and the European Social Fund (ESF).

The operations of the Postgraduate Programme are governed by the provisions of articles 10 to 12 of Law 2083/92 and are supervised by the Postgraduate Studies Co-ordinating Committee, which is made up of seven members of the Teaching and Research Staff of the University of Patras Department of Philology.

The aim of the Postgraduate Programme in Modern approaches to language and texts is to support basic and applied research in the specialised fields covered by the programme (in Classics, Modern Greek Philology or Linguistics) on the basis of international scientific advances. The programme is also aimed at promoting and fostering interdisciplinary debate, developing and utilising the academic strengths of the Department and enhancing the skills of new researchers in order for them to be able to pursue a successful academic or professional career. Finally, it is also hoped that the Postgraduate Programme will encourage scientific dialogue and co-operation with recognised universities, research centres and institutions in Greece, EU Member States and other countries.
