Examination of the development of European literature from Romanticism to Modernism. Emphasis will be given on literary movements and schools in their particular historical, national and ideological contexts. Study of exemplary texts by a number of authors: Goethe, Heine, Hugo, Lamartine, Keats, Leopardi, Balzac, Flaubert, Tsehov, Baudelaire, Mallarmé, Appolinaire, Mayakovsky, T.S.Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Kafka, Brecht.
